In the magazine “Taini XX Veka” (Mysteries of the 20th Century), issue n. 23 as of 2007, on page 11 there is the article “The Antikythera Mechanism”. It is about an extraordinary artifact which resembles a calculator, named after the place where it was discovered off the Greek island of Antikythera. This device is over 20 centuries old. It was found by Greek divers as long ago as in 1900 among the wreck of a ship sunk, hypothetically, in 87 B.C.. The latest scientific conclusion regarding this device: it can be considered the prototype of the modern computer.

The answer of the Center: This unique artifact was used as a compass by seamen. It consists mostly of magnet.
