The tree symbolizes the Tree of Life of man. The three trees mean a negative life. The tree trunks are covered in black spots (a life lived serving the negative is contaminated with sins – the dark spots). At the bottom of the tree there is a man; he is very short in comparison with the tree. This artistic trick is used in order to show that the person has failed to reach high results of growth on the Staircase of Perfection. His growth stopped at the level of the base of the Tree of Life because of the sins he committed. The crowns of the trees are poor – the life of the person is aimless and empty.
